And 19-year-old Reshma Qureshi proved just that after making her runway debut at New York Fashion Week on Sept. 8. Two years ago in Northern India, Qureshi was attacked by her estranged brother-in-law and his friends, who held her down and doused her with sulfuric acid. As a result of the attack, she lost an eye, and her body and face were disfigured. When I read this recently in a news article, and New York being just a 10 minute ferry away from my home, I decided to go there and attend the event. Even after almost all the shows were over including the one above last week.
New York is one of the big four fashion capitals of the world, and I am lucky to be located in a place that celebrates fashion.
So, I went to the website of NYFW and few of the events were free to the public or by RSVP. I thought of trying to make my way towards the Naeem Khan Show at 12 pm that happened yesterday. Now the website of NYFW is very confusing, confusing because there are multiple venues mentioned, and I couldn’t understand that if the event would be happening at all the venues simultaneously or not. So I chose 'Skylight' , the one near the Madison Square Garden(5 min walk). I tried to get in touch with them via their contact form or mail, but got no response what so ever. Even RSPV’ed were not responded back.
But, I decided to watch it nonetheless. Now the beauty of all this is, even though at first I was disappointed when the guard at the gate told me no event is free, its all by RSVP, I decided to stand there like all photographers and videographers and etc. And so I got a wide range of glimpse of models coming out of the door and walking straight into their cars. I was wearing no heels whatsoever because I had to walk quite a bit while returning.
Each model is unique. I loved the fact how smooth their skin shines and how elegantly they pose or pout. Every gesture spells elegance. The tiptoe of their heels match the costumes and make up that they wear.
So let’s take a quick glimpse straight from NYFW!
